HERCULEAN formed back in October 2006, originally as a two piece...

Declan O'Kane and Stuart McInnes first met in May 2006, but it wasn't until that October that they would think up one of the most ambitious projects in years. HERCULEAN formed in a music class, named after the song by the band The Good, The Bad And The Queen which was released in the same month. The first song written for Herculean was called 'Sky In Land' it was written in the same class in which they formed - the song only contained voice, keyboard and drums but marked the dawn of the project. Throughout the months that followed, Stuart and Declan wrote and practiced songs, still keeping within the four walls of which they had formed, but things didn't really start kicking off until summer 2007 when they desided to book a proper rehersal room. They desided to go to Headhunter Records which was near Decaln's house at the time. Their first visit was that July and by a couple of weeks later, they had a handful of new songs. It wasn't until that September that the band realized they needed a bass player, there were 4 possible bassists, but they chose Stephen McQuire, who Stuart had known for 3 years. The band had their first rehersal as a three piece that month and went on writing and rehersing, recording demos in October. They set up their own studio in Declan's loft and made their first ever recordings as a band, recording two songs - 'Moscow' and 'Deserter' - the later of which has never been released. In December 2007, it was announced that Stephen had left the band due to musical differences. Steven Gerry soon after joined Herculean as the new bassist in July 2008. The band later made their debut, releasing 'Down South EP' that October, two years after originally forming. That Christmas, the band released a new crowd of songs online, under the title of 'December Demos'. As of August 2009, Herculean are currently writing new material for a release later this year, the band also have gigs lined up for September performing at the Classic Grand and Soundhaus in Glasgow.
